Rotational moulding (or rotomoulding) is a process for producing components from thermoplastics. lt is also known as rotational sintering, rotocasting or spin casting.

  • Every product design requires a separate steel or aluminium mould. The mould is mounted on an arm of the rotationalmoulding machine and charged with raw material in powder form (e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene).
  • The mould is then moved into the moulding oven while being constantly rotated about two axes. The raw material in the mould melts and adheres to the inside wall of the mould, building up the wall thickness of the plastic part.
  • The rotating mould is then moved into a cooling chamber where the plastic mass is cooled down.
  • The product is removed from the mould outside the cooling chamber and the mould is re-charged.

As they are produced in a pressure-free process, rotomoulded products are virtually stress-free. Depending on the raw material used, rotomoulded parts are highly robust, light-weight flexible, dyeable (with dryblend or compound), UV resistant and resistant to many chemicals.

Raw materials used:

  • Polyethylene (PE, PE-X), also biodiesel-resistant
  • Polyamide (PA)
  • Polypropylene (PP, PP-HT)
  • Polyester for high-temperature applications (flexible/rigid)
  • Multilayer {PE/PA, PE/PU foam, PE/PE foam)

With the exception of PE-X, these materials are fully recyclable.
